“The first thing most of us think about when we hear the word open, is Windows.” –Steve Jobs

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really thought of Windows as being open.  I guess if this is Jobs’ idea of open, then the rest of his dystopian fantasies can make sense too.

Isn’t Windows criticized for being locked down and proprietary?  Did I miss something?

For complete context, you can listen to Jobs’ complete rant here (the above starts at 1:05).

Steve Jobs: I’m making iDevices lots and lots of iDevices
Apple Board of Directors: But what about the Mac?
Jobs : I’m making iDevices lots and lots of iDevices
BOD: Steve?…STEVE!
Jobs: Huh? What? I was lost in the magic of my iDevices.
BOD: Steve, we have to update OS X. It is an easy cash cow and we can’t rest on our laurels.
Jobs: Maybe next year. I can’t really spare the developers right now.
BOD: Well to keep our stock astronomically high, we must give the investors something?
Jobs: Just wait, I’m almost ready to demo the iPud. It is going to be fantastic and magical.
BOD: Well, what do you have that we can show now?
Jobs: I told you I can’t spare the developers, did I tell you my iDevices are fantastic and magical?
BOD: But Steve? Our stock will drop below those Redmond boys by Christmas.
Jobs: Just run a video of the Mac taking advantage of some of the magical goodies of my magical iDevices. I’ll try to get you something more by next year, I can’t spare the developers now.
BOD: ???
